St Luke’s Op Shop Torquay
Opening Hours:
Tuesdays 9am until 1pm
Fridays 9am until 1pm
Saturdays 9am until 1pm
The Shop began in the late 1970s/early 1980s. Norma Bath and Mary Swann felt there was a need for the donation and sale of inexpensive goods to support the homeless, refugees, families experiencing difficulties.
The Shop shares the values of Surfcoast Parish following Jesus as an example, and partners with the community in recycling and reusing secondhand goods, and in exercising compassion and care for people.
It offers low price quality goods to the needy and those looking for a bargain, it is also a place of hospitality and care for those who come through the door as a visitor, customer or regular local. It has a reputation for being a warm and caring place.
Our income supports the Parish in its work of spiritual enrichment, encouragement, pastoral and community service in our region. 10% of all funds is given to the Homework Club assisting refugee children in Corio, Feed Me Surfcoast and Torquay Food Aid.
The Op Shop donates goods to several other organisations on a regular basis including Barwon Valley School; Outpost in Geelong; Geelong Refugee Assistance Program; Secondhand School Shop; The Sebastian Foundation; Share the Dignity and Geelong Mums and publishes a Surf Coast Op Shop Trail flyer for distribution at the regional shops.
We manage our surplus and unsaleable items in ethical ways as best we can.
On days of temperatures over 38 degrees, the Op Shop may be closed or have limited hours. Coordinators have authority and discretion to make decisions based on forecasts and safe work practices.
Donations are only accepted when the Op Shop is open. We gratefully take clean items in good condition.
This helps with safe sorting and saves us disposal costs.
We cannot take these items: electrical, furniture, car seats, cots, bike helmets, pool toys, medium to large soft toys, doonas and pillows, sharp knives, ski boots.
We appreciate your help, we have limited storage, we cannot sell items that require safety or health clearance or compliance. The Parish Op Shop accepts payment by Credit and Debit Card.
