The Surfcoast Parish Cycling Team welcomes all riders, road or gravel, e-bike or leg-power and invites you to join us either participating in an organised event or simply a social coffee ride, or something in between!

We are lucky to have some great local events to take part in like the Great Ocean and Otway Classic (60, 145 and 204km courses, start and finish in Torquay) in April/May, the Cadel Evans Peoples Ride (124km and 59km, start and finish in Geelong) in January and Amy’s Gran Fondo (122km, 45km and 14km, start and finish in Lorne) in September/October each year.

Whether you are new to cycling, or have scaled the French Alps, we’d love to ride with you.

The Lorne Sprinters – Murray To Moyne

I was part of the Lorne Sprinters, who took part in the annual Murray to Moyne Cycling Relay for 11 years.  This is an event organised by a group in Port Fairy for recreational cyclists. It  is a team relay event, so you can get a group of workmates, family or friends together and register a team, and there are only 1500 riders each year.

A couple of local Lorne cyclists promoted the event. Young – old – male – female – we entered the event as a group. Over the years our group would vary between 15-30 riders. It was a really great community builder as we were seeking sponsorships from individuals and businesses to raise funds for our local health services. Buses, trailers and vehicles were donated for our journey.

The event would start from the Murray River at either Mildura, Swan Hill or Echuca and end at the Moyne River estuary at Port Fairy.  We would travel north to our starting point on a Friday, on Saturday we broke into 3 groups and rode in relay fashion to Hamilton – arriving around midnight, and on Sunday the whole group would cycle the 100k south to Port Fairy.

It was a fantastic 2 day experience riding with several dozen other similar groups, passing each other and making friends along the way. Teams came from all over Victoria, South Australia and southern NSW.  You can ride practically anywhere in this region and meet up with other cyclists who know of or participated in this event.

In all, a great event, team builder and fundraiser, benefitting community in the process.
